Ferrari unveils more details of its new electric sports car

Ferrari has unveiled the interior design and official name of its highly anticipated fully electric sports car: the Luce. This launch marks a bold new chapter in the Italian marque’s history, representing the second phase in the development of its first all-electric model.

The Luce has been crafted in collaboration with LoveFrom, the design collective founded by Sir Jony Ive, formerly Apple’s Chief Design Officer. This partnership blends Ferrari’s legendary craftsmanship with modern innovation, creating a cabin that balances cutting-edge technology with intuitive, driver-focused design.

Heritage Meets Innovation The steering wheel pays tribute to Ferrari’s rich racing history, featuring a simplified three-spoke design and two analogue control modules reminiscent of the layouts seen in Formula 1 single-seaters. Ferrari has also introduced a first in its lineup: a driver binnacle mounted on the steering column. This ultra-light, ultra-thin OLED display includes three large cutouts that reveal information from a secondary screen beneath, delivering an unprecedented level of clarity and functionality.

The Luce also incorporates three key display units: the driver binnacle, the central control panel, and a rear control panel. The central panel is mounted on a ball-and-socket joint, allowing it to be oriented toward either the driver or passenger. Ergonomic touches, such as a palm rest, make it easy to operate controls intuitively without diverting attention from the road.

One of the most striking features is the multigraph integrated into the central display. This intricate instrument combines three independent motors to move its hands autonomously and offers four modes: clock, chronograph, compass, and launch control. The system exemplifies Ferrari’s commitment to micro-engineering excellence.

Advanced Materials and Technology Ferrari has equipped the Luce with Corning Gorilla Glass—the first automotive glass designed for superior durability and scratch resistance—paired with a special “E Ink” display that only consumes power when the display changes colour. Every element of the cabin emphasizes precision, ergonomics, and driver engagement.

Performance and Market Outlook While Ferrari has not yet confirmed pricing, early reports suggest the Luce’s electric powertrain may exceed 746 kW (around 1,000 horsepower), positioning it among the most powerful and exclusive EVs in the market. Questions remain about the size of the ultra-high-performance EV segment, but Ferrari’s reputation for blending speed, luxury, and innovation is likely to generate strong interest.

The final phase of the Luce’s development—including the reveal of its exterior design—is scheduled to take place in Italy in May 2026. This milestone is expected to showcase the car’s full capabilities and cement Ferrari’s transition into the electric era.
